Akkodis is seeking an Associate Chemist for a medical device manufacturer located in Plainsboro, NJ.
Pay Range:
$31 - $33 hr.
Location:
This position primarily resides in the Plainsboro, NJ R&D Laboratory Facility location but may on certain occasions be required to travel to other sites such as the Boston, MA Facility and Columbia, MD Facility as well as other sites to provide testing support.

M-F 9am - 5pm
Job Description:
The Associate Analytical Chemist is responsible for supporting the Research and Development Analytical Laboratory activities (studies, routine testing and method development / validation activities) for Tissue Technology projects as directed, for the purpose of achieving corporate goals.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
o Perform chemical analysis of prototype materials, including but not limited to routine assays of chemical components, determination of impurities, enzymatic degradation, spectroscopy, and chromatographyo Perform physical characterization of prototype materials, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, mechanical testing, rheometry, particle sizing, and thermal analysiso Comply with GLP, OSHA and all internal and external regulations and guidanceo Gradually develop knowledge of a focused test areao Assist Sr.
Manager of Analytical Discovery Laboratory (ADL) to assure operation of the Product Development Laboratories in accordance with GLP and OSHA standardso Work as part of a team to assist in developing and validating test methods to support the design and development of implantable Tissue Technology products from concept phase through launch, following GLP, ICH, USP and Design Control Procedureso Assist in transferring new analytical methods to Quality Control laboratories in accordance with ISO and FDA standardso Provide direct testing support to the Quality Control laboratories when they are requesting personnel resourceso Summarizing data and communicating results to the Analytical Laboratory teamo Preparing reports and presentationso Articulating laboratory goals and responses, communicating with management regarding laboratory prioritieso Progress reportingo Make arrangements with facilities, safety, and support personnel, and with outside vendors for calibration, testing and other serviceso Maintains good laboratory behavior which includes but not limited to GDP, chemical hygiene and all EHS requirementso Assists in instrument / method troubleshootingo Assists in developing and supporting new laboratory test capabilitieso Assists in developing the laboratory workflow using GLP and regulatory principleso Assists and participates in the design of Validation Planso Assists in the review and improvement test methods and various procedures in support of overall laboratory continuous improvement initiativeso Complies with and completes all required internal and external training in a timely manner as well as maintains complete and accurate training recordso Participates in the design of laboratory and Test Development planso Assists in the support of internal and external auditso Supports laboratory investigations using the appropriate tools and methodologies for all related OOS, OOT, deviations, events, etc.
o Supports any necessary remediation work related to compliance gaps, audit findings, CAPAs, etc.
o Troubleshoot technical issues encountered during physical and chemical characterizationRequired Minimum
Qualifications:
o Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Engineering (preferably Biomedical or Chemical), Biological or Natural Sciences, or Pre-Medicine with minimum 1-2 years of related experience or an Associates Degree with 3- 5 years of experience performing progressively advanced duties at the Associate Chemist Level, or equivalent training & experience (M.
S.
and Ph.
D.
Degree not applicable)o Experience in working with analytical instruments including gas chromatograph, liquid chromatograph, UV-Vis and FT-IR spectrometers, other analytical techniques and mechanical testing equipment is desirableo Experience in working with physical characterization techniques, including microscopy, thermal analysis, and rheology is desirableo Experience with analytical test method development and validation is desirableo Working knowledge of standard laboratory practices and safetyo Experience with Microsoft Office software to create reports, spreadsheets, analyze data and prepare presentationo Experience with statistics, experimental design and multivariate analyses (and their related software) is desirableo Problem-solving and instrument / method troubleshooting skills is desirableTools and Equipment Used:
o Analytical Instrumentation (GC, HPLC, UV-Vis, FT-IR), wet chemistry techniques, Microscopy Instrumentation (SEM, ESEM, EDS, confocal, fluorescence, optical, slide scanner), computers, related software, statistical tools, along with new and existing manufacturing and test equipment.
